The first area on Google is search based pay per click, which displays your business’s Ads on Google’s ™ search result pages as seen in the photo to the right. You can have a campaign up and going in 10 minutes (Depending on whether you have a Google™ compliant website.)


The process work by selecting keywords you want your ads displayed on, setting a price you’re willing to pay per click, writing some ads, set a daily budget, and then launching the campaign. (That is the watered down version, NOTE: if you’re not careful you’ll lose your shirt. I consulted a company that was wasting over $10,000/month on useless traffic to their website!)

The second area of pay per click advertising on Google™’s is their vast content network. (this is the lesser known area. See example on right.) Your business’s Ads can be displayed next to content on related websites. And you can display text, image or video Ads. The content network requires a much different strategy than advertising on Google's™ search network. Your ad is interrupting someone versus someone who is seeking what you’re offering. But the reach of the content network is massive, and can sometimes double the amount of traffic and leads of the search network. It all depends on the strategy you use to generate the leads.

Well, it is possible to do test your marketing messages with pay per click before rolling out a larger campaign. Pay per click is quick and easy, you can test different marketing messages, web design, and is easy to scale.

Once you have this information you can then apply it to all your other marketing campaigns! This makes pay per click one of the most under-utilized services of the internet.
Every company I’ve ever consulted for HAS NOT leveraged the intelligence gathered from pay per click advertising. To really roll out a proper search engine optimization campaign (which can take months to develop) you need this keyword and market intelligence. Otherwise you’re shooting arrows blind with unnecessary ad spend.

As I said above, there are some things to consider before signing up for a google campaign. One being that you can loose your shirt, and the other being you need a Google compliant website. But if the conditions are right, you can theoretically setup a targeted search campaign on Google and have targeted visitors coming to your website by the end of the day today.
